That, Madame Mahima, is the sound of Inevitability....

Sigh.

Okay so I guess this had to happen one day.
It was unavoidable, I suppose.

Like growing old, like drooling in your sleep (happened only ONCE), like realising that too much chocolate made you kinda meaty (my arteries are in excellent shape though) and like seeing a nice pair of shoes on sale and finding out they had every size except yours......

It HAD to happen eventually.......................but yet you always hope it happens later, rather than sooner.

Ladies and Gents, this one is The One Where Mahi's Parents Discover Her Blog.

Yup.

Guys, if you were ever interested in marrying me (Apoo, I'm looking at you), here and now is the perfect place and and time to make your pitch because chances are pretty high that my parents will read this.

Girls, now would be a GREAT time to tell my parents that I am the lovely, wholesome young woman that every daughter aspires to be (lie if you have to, dammit!)

And lastly - Mom, Dad, if you're reading this, do enjoy the blog. I'm apologizing in advance for any foul language you might come across....peer pressure y'know...what can I say? But also know that I have written of you guys in nothing but glowing terms!

Have a great week ahead guys
*Mahi walks away, trying to figure out if she can password protect her blog*

Just kidding, parents. Just kidding.
*No, really..*

Ha!

12 February, 2008

Okay, okay so here's what I've gathered so far....

With the imminent arrival of my birthday, it's become harder for me to avoid blogging. I missed not doing a reflection of 2007, so I'm making up for it now.

So true to the title of the post, here we go -

... after joining work in 2007, I learnt more than I've learnt in the past couple of years. And I'm not talking profession-wise. I've learnt people are even more sneaky, contradictory and sometimes more caring than I give them credit for.

... I've seen pure joy in a person's eyes, thanks to me. There you have it. I didn't know how else to make that sound modest haha. The grinning-and-giggling feedback loop it causes is absolutely hilarious.

... I've learnt to say 'No', but nicely and when it really counts. I am, however, still in the process of learning not to feel guilty for saying 'No'.

... I've noticed (a few? some? all?) people are torn between the urge to stand up and applaud you for believing in your fairytale and yet at the same time, can't wait to rip it to shreds. Most of the time they give in to the latter urge.

... I believe, more than ever, in my fairytales and my reality. I'm allowed to have my dreams. If yours didn't work out well for you, then I'm sorry. But I won't allow you to take me down with you. If I have to fall, if my faith has to be shattered, then so be it. Till then.. don't rain on my parade :)

... You have to learn to laugh and let go - of people, of words, of occurences. Not allowing yourself to do so will kill you on the inside.

... Letting go ain't so bad!

... I'm learning the difference between acceptance and resignation.

... Accepting someone for who they are - warts and all, is terrifying but liberating.

... I've become so much more closer to my parents. It's lovely. I'm learning things about their personalities that I never noticed before. I'd have never accepted this, but I guess it's true that they sort of start to move into 'friend' territory once you hit a certain age. I'm lucky coz for me, it was a seamless transition and it was great.

... Growing up is alright. There's a bump in road ever so often and a scuffle here and there. But it's fairly doable :)

(PS - I still hate that Valentine's Day and my birthday is coming up, but I still want to be wished. I'll put that under the '...I'm learning to be more selfish' category, but that goes without saying :P)

Pearls of Wisdom!

Sometimes the weight of the world just dumps itself on your shoulders and you get inundated with meaningless information, right?

Well, not to worry..
I, Mahima, have TRUE AND ABSOLUTE pearls of wisdom that will make this crazy world a lot more clearer.

Trust me.

So my brother had a bad cough, and someone asked "Do you know why he's ill?"
I know it's because of a virus, but out of a wicked desire to hear an alternative reason, I ask "Why?"

"Because he washes his face with the water from the shower..the water from the shower shouldn't hit your face!"

I was, as you can very well imagine, wide eyed and speecheless for a good 15 seconds before exclaiming completely straight-faced "Are you serious??"
"Yes!" says the Authority-On-All-Things-Shower-Related.
"I did not know that!"
At this moment I'm killing myself trying not to laugh. My nostrils flare when I try to stifle laughter and right about then you could have driven a double decker bus through them.

So my Dad comes in and he gets asked the same question and gets the same reply.

Only this time my Dad lacks my delicate subtlety and laughs his ass off.
And walks off saying "You're nuts!"

Other Pearls :
"Lights should be switched on ONLY after 6.30 pm!"
This was told to me as I went to switch on a light at 6.15 pm. After pausing mid-step to digest this, I pretended like I hadn't heard it, and proceeded to defiantly switch on the light.
Yeeeeah I'm the proverbial rebel without a cause :P

"Signals of Good Luck will make business better!"
This was repeated 5 times because everyone listening had a blank 'Say wut now?' look on their face. 5 repetitions later we nodded and said "Oh ok..yea..that.."
We still don't know what the hell that means.

"You're fair because you eat oats for breakfast"
Once again, this is exclaimed like it is a fact of life. Once again I exclaim innocently "Are you serious??". Once again I'm looked at like I'm a dumbass with a vacuum occupying the space between my ears. Once again I chuckle inwardly but say humbly "You know..I think you're right."
What?
Refute that claim?
And lose the chance of chancing upon more pearls of wisdom?

HELL NO!

Aaaaaah I LIVE for these moments.
:D

Dude Looks Like Doctor.

When my mom first talked to my brother about taking up medicine as a profession, he seemed really unsure.

"But Mom..sometimes my hand shakes..like this - *Held out hand and twitched it slightly*- What if I'm in a surgery and I slice open an artery?? I'll get sued for malpractice!"

My mom told this to my genial, jolly doctor who chuckled and said "Tell him to become a gynecologist..the women will love him."
They burst out laughing and I..I, of course, tuned out and went to a happier, less traumatizing place.

Anyway Point Is - My brother got accepted into medicine!
(The Uni name and stuff will be kept under wraps for now)

It's heartening to know that good looks AND brains run in the family.
Heh heh heh heh hehhhh

So just as I start to think "Wow..my brother's pretty brainy...who knew?", I get this call from him -

Bro - Eh...Guess what? I got into an accident
Mahi - What!?!!?

This accident took place in Dubai, where he stopped over, on his way to the interview place. Apparently he went on his 'Desert Safari' thingie where you get to ride dune buggies in the desert. Carrying on..

Mahi - What!?!!? What happened??
Bro - I was riding the dune buggy right, and I crashed into a small tree. Now I've got scratches on my face (this is a big deal to him..he can give Derek Zoolander a run for his money) and a small burn.
Mahi - ....Let me get this straight. 1 day before your important interview, you decide to drive a vehicle you've never driven before...
Bro - Huh huh huh huh (that's how he laughs)
Mahi - ......you also manage to find a TREE in the middle of the desert to bump into!?!?
Bro - Huh huh huh I was trying to avoid a sand bump!
Mahi - Idiot! Its a desert!! What did you expect to find there?? Water? So to avoid it you bump into a tree?! Possibly the only tree in the entire desert?
Bro - Huh huh huh huh yeah..

So...he gets to become a doctor..but he's nutty enough to find a tree to bump into.
In the middle of the desert.

Good Grief.

Oh, oh Medha just reminded me!
Before my brother went for his interviews he would bug me to coach him.
And me being the giving, gracious person that I am, I would oblige (and then inform him that he owed me. Big Time.)
One of the questions I asked him "If you were to resettle on Mars, what are 3 things that you would bring along with you?" (I swear..this was a question that had been asked before)
Bro - I would bring a never-ending supply of oxygen. A steady supply of water...
Me - ...and?
Bro - A woman. To repopulate Mars. Huh huh huh huh huh huh huh

Good looks AND Brains run in the family?
Add 'A sense of humor' to that list ;)
hehe

The Great Pretender = Me

Yup that's what my Dad says alot of the time
"You are the Great Pretender."

Well, he's right.
Y'know I've always said - It's not what you say, it's how you say it.
(Or in my case, pretending to be really smart and fervently praying that no one asks me any more questions)

Case No.1

I was watching one of my favourite channels - Discovery Travel and Living, and they were showing everything you needed to know about Seattle.
Dad comes along and says "Seattle, eh? You know when I was your age I memorized all the 51 states in America AND their capitals. I knew everything about every state."
So I pulled my eyes away from the TV, smirked and said "Geek."
"Geek? You young people can't be bothered to learn anything at all. Compared with how much I knew at your age, you know zilch."
"Oh yea? Well Mr. America, then tell me what state Seattle is in?"
.....
Silence
...
"Pfft. I'm 55 years old...er..the brain gets rusty y'know..I memorized all this ages ago..."
"Uhh-huh. Come on Dad. Just admit you don't know. It's okay. You're still the Man of the House." (I think at this point I may have also grunted for effect..but I can't really remember. Anyhoo..)
"As if you know what state it's in."
"Washington."
"Oh."

"It's cool Dad. I'm sure you'd have known allll about some other state..it happens to the best of us."
He walked away, muttering "Wiseass."

Of course he didn't have to know that just before he showed up, they flashed the map of Washington with Seattle in it...somewhere in there.

*Smirk*

Case No.2

"Oyyyye. I need help with my personal statement!" whined my dear brother, RUDELY interrupting my 'Prison Break' viewing.

[Slight Digression : Ladies..and a few Gentlemen, please do yourselves a favour a watch Prison Break. Not only is it really quite a rivetting show that focuses on the quiet desperation of blahblahblah.. it's got this GUY- Wentworth Miller as the main protagonist. What an interesting face, does he not have? The symmetry..the odd proportions that make that face so very fascinating to look at...oh screw that-

Oh.My.God. Wentworth Miller, where have you been all my LIFE?
Be still my beating heart.. Be still.
Yes, I've read those horrible, untrue, bad, bad rumors about him being gay and all and it's NOT TRUE and SHUTUP.

End of Digression]

*Cough* Carrying On-

"Yes, yes I'll help you with the personal statement, but really, you need to get your points down. It needs to come from within. You're 18. I can't be sitting next to you dictating each and every sentence!" And I hurriedly put the earphones back on, eager to get back to my Wentworth Viewing see what happens next on Prison Break.
"But I need you to guide me through it!"
Sighing, I took the earphone off and said solmemnly "I can only help those, who help themselves."
Dad - "Shut UP."
Me- "Haw. Rude."
Dad- "Help your brother."
Brother - *Smirk*
Me- *Mumbles* Wait for meeee Wentworth..

Case No. 3

-Ring, ring-
Me: sdfefherhfgggbxjkfnv
Mom: Mahima? You'd better be awake. It's 11.30am already.
Me: Uhh..Pfft Mom! Of course I'm up. I woke up uh...almost 2 hours back! Really, Mom. You have to learn to start trusting me.
Mom: Okay. So if you've been up all this while I'm sure you cleaned your room as I told you to just before I left..anyway I'm on my way up already.
Me: Shit.
Mom: What?
Me: Nothing. Bye!

Don't think Supergirl exists? I AM her. Who else can get a room cleaned in one minute flat. Okay it wasn't THAT clean but the point is- I rock.

Remember - It's not what you say, it's how you say it. This works extremely well for another reason - There's a sucker born every minute. :D

PS- All you self-righteous asses going 'Liar liar pants on fire.' Let me tell you I am not a liar I just....embellish the truth. Ha!
PPS- This post took like 3 hours to type because I got so distracted by all the gorgeous Wentworth pictures out there that. Gimme a break. We're all allowed hardcore celeb crushes.
Oh go away.

We are Fa-muh-ly!

I woke up this morning and realised something.
My Mom is sneaky. She's a smart one, that woman.

It would seem that she has realised that banging my door open, noisily switching off the air-conditioner and yanking open the curtains doesn't work as well as it used to, when it comes to waking me up.
So she's resorted to the most (supposedly) foolproof of tactics- Kelso.

She dumps him on my tiny single bed, he makes himself comfortable by my side (the mutt actually PUSHES me to make space for his Royal-hairy ass-Highness) and then licks me all over my face.
Of course one look from those chocolate eyes and all my murderous intentions evaporate.

Touché Mother. You may have won the battle, but you haven't won the war.
(Is that used the other way around?)

Anyway I digress!
The other day, my brother came home the other day grinning from ear to ear.
Of course my mother immediately got suspicious.

" Huh-huh-huh-huh (that's how my brother laughs) A bunch of guys from my class made a copy of the key for Pool Table Room in my college. The college locked up the room coz the exams are nearing; anyway we’ve been using the room everyday to play pool during our free periods.
Suddenly, today we got ambushed by the Vice Principal, the Discipline Master and the admin staff!
(He went into great detail about the formation of the ambush team- V.P peered into the window and went ‘Ah-ha!’, D.M opened the door with great flourish, and the admin staff hung around trying to act important).
The V.P asked if they made more copies of the key. All of us shook our heads but every. single. guy had one key in his pocket. Huh-huh-huh-huh.
Then, Mr X, the D.M, took down our names and said to me ‘You, young man, are in a lot of trouble! Your name is going into my Pink Book.’
So I said ‘Wow. Your Pink Book huh?’
(My brother is the Prince of straight-faced jibes.)
Mr X said ‘Yes! And if you commit any further offences your name will go into my Black Cupboard.’
I said ‘Wah! The Black Cupboard!...hey Mr X..I have One Question.’
He thought I was gonna ask him if I could be let off or something, so he smiled and said ‘Yes?’

I said ‘Your Black Cupboard...does it have a key?’

Huh-huh-huh-huh.”

I swear my mom, my bro and I literally roared with laughter at that, of course Mom followed that up by a not-too-convincing lecture on how he shouldn’t do such things. Dad couldn’t stop chuckling when we told him about it later in the evening…phew!

The next day, the phone rang, my mom picked it up and asked who it was.
Turns out it was Mr X, calling to screw over my brother enquire if my mother knew her son had taken part in a conspiracy that could have ‘potentially compromised school security?’
(At this my mom mouthed to me ‘What an Ass.’)
“Yes Mr X, my son briefed me about the incident and let me tell you that I deeply apologize and regret what has happened, if I need to reimburse the school for the lock, do let me know, yes?”
“Yes Mrs R, I…”
*Giggle* You have a nice day now, Mr X! Take care and thank you for calling! *giggle* Goodbye!”
Hehehe thank you Mrs R, you take care too!”
-click-

Woah.
Feminine wiles or WHAT!
She managed to flirt, make a point about how stupid he was AND end the discussion in 2 minutes flat! She didn’t even give that dude a chance to get a word in sideways.
My mom rocks!

Oh also, I made these AWESOME Banana-coconut-walnut-chocolate chip-muffins . Trust me when I say I wish all of you were here to smell them baking.
Now I hate tooting my own horn (oh yea right.) but they tasted DIVINE!

Okay okay so it's not the best of pictures (stupid Panasonic camera phone), but they were yummmmy.

And on that mouth-watering note, I'd like to wish Jups a very very VERY Happy Birthday!
I'll have a muffin on you're behalf dahhlink (and anyone else's behalf....and NO FAT JOKES. The blog is a strictly anti-weight-issues-blog.)

Goddamned Template, I'm a Moron and Titty Talk.

'Tis with a heavy heart I write this...

Due to VIOLENT objections, I have decided to change my template yet again.

Actually the other day I accessed my blog via a PC at my uni library and when it opened I actually went "Say wuuuuuuuut?!" (in falsetto).

It was COMPLETELY wonky!

Now I know why some of you have had such negative responses towards it!
(I'm sure it has nothing to do with the flower or the bright colours, and if it IS too flower-y for you, then...sod off.)

So yes..back to the good ol' drawing board.
Stay tuned..and contrary to what my tone might be, I DO appreciate the feedback.

***

Now as many of you might know, I spend a good hour and a half travelling to uni, and another good hour and a half travelling back home.

That's a total of 3 hours.

But it's fine..coz I enjoy thinking/daydreaming and listening to my music..and most importantly I don't have to worry about making futile/annoying conversation..so it's all good..
EXCEPT-
when you spend all that time travelling and in the end you realise that your classes have, in fact, been cancelled.
Or as I'm realising now- you've mixed up your Tuesday timetable with Monday's.

So I waited outside my class..no one turned up.
And it sorta occured to me that the WHOLE class (including the tutor) couldn't possibly be 15 minutes late..in fact I'm the one who's always 15 minutes late.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the moral of the story is, if you keep skipping your Tuesday classes, God WILL find a way to mess with your head and make you pay (by making you wake up early, travel and then ultimately feel like an IDIOT.)
I swear...I could just picture God chuckling, pointing at me and going "Luh-oooooosah!"

*Mahi shakes a fist*

***
At the Dinner Table -

Mom: This dish that Aunty X sent.. is awful!
Dad: So tell her then.
Mom: No I can't that's so mean!
Dad: Okay..
Mom : But maybe I should tell her. If she doesn't like dishes that I send over she says "Oh P! Honestly, That dish tasted TERRIBLE..I couldn't even swallow it." Can you believe it??
Dad: So tell her then!
Mom: Ya. I'm going to tell her! It's my revenge! Hee hee
Mahi : -while eating, mumbles- Yes..tit for tit. -chuckles to herself-

Mom and Dad: -silence-
Mahi: What? Why ya'll lookin' at me like that?
Dad: She worries me sometimes.
Mom: -nods-

Mothers, Flu Shots and Stinkiness.

Mahi is faintly annoyed and amused.
This is because Mahi had to wake up at 7am on a bloody Saturday morning to go with her mum and brother for a flu vaccine.

Aahh the flu vaccine. 'Tis a curious thing, this vaccine is.

It's highly recommended for people above the age of 65.
You might still get the flu even though you are vaccinated.

So basically I'm being injected with the dead flu virus, that may or may not guarantee that I'll never get the flu.
Such is life.

I bloody hate injections.

There was a lot of nervous laughing from my side as the nurse prepared the needle
"Wow, haha, that's a really big needle! Haha!"
"Haha, I really hate needles you know.."
"Haha ohh don't try and distract me! I'm studying psychology, Haha I know what you're gonna -ooowwwwwwwwwww"

So anyway, my brother and I both got jabbed on our right arms (coz we're lefties) and I wisely kept my distance from Mom.
You see, experience has taught me that my Mom gets violent when she's amused.
Having me AND my brother almost always amuses her coz we're both such a barrel of laughs.

Right.
Anyway, I wisely kept my right arm out of Mom's reach, my brother wisely didn't.

Brother: Yea so S's friend is half Australian and Half African.
Mom: Ohh ok!

5 minutes later

Mom: So S's friend is Aboriginese right?
Brother: -Incredulous look- Mom. Seriously? I just told you 5 minutes back he's half Aussie and half African..
Mom: Oh!! Hahahaa! -thumps brother on right shoulder-
Brother: -Incredulous look- MOM!! SERIOUSLY?!?!!?
Mom: Oh!!! You had your jab there! Hahahaha!

As she was chuckling away she came towards me, raised her arm to thump me and I just went "Ohh don't even think about it."

I sometimes seriously wonder if my Mom is a blonde. (Sorry to all the blonde's reading this.)

She once called over a bunch of her friends and their husbands.
Aunty N's husband, Uncle P started one of those deep, serious political talks.
Everyone was listening rapt..well almost everyone.

I glanced over at Mom and Aunty N, and saw their eyes glazing over.
5 minutes into it, Mom suddenly chirps:
"N..What time are you waking up tomorrow??"
"I think around 6.30am I think!"

Uncle P looked like he was gonna pop a vein-
"SERIOUSLY?! I'm having a deep conversation here..how can you interrupt like that??"

I thought I was gonna pop a vein trying not to laugh at all their expressions!
Mom just laughed and thumped Aunty N.

***

On a completely different note- I always wondered if it just my bad luck that stinky people ALWAYS end up sitting next to me on the bus, but yesterday..I was convinced luck had nothing to do with it.

It's a friggin' conspiracy I tell you.
I swear. EVERY SINGLE PERSON who sat next to me stank like they had shat themselves+not taken a bath in days.

What?
Is it me?
Do I wear a sign saying : Stinky People, Please come Sit with Me
Am I overly sensitive to smell?
Is it a case of 'birds of a stinky feather, flock together?'
-Mahi sniffs herslef-
No. It's NOT me.

What gives?
I don't get it.

Blood is Thicker than Water - My Foot.

**Warning: Ranty Post Ahead**

So my mom's back from her trip and boy did she have things to say.
(She got me a couple of nice suits and jewellery too but all that stuff is irrelvent right now.)

I'm not a mummy's/daddy's girl by nature. Honest. I love them to bits but I'm not the sort to wake up bright and cheery every morning (ever), and plant a kiss on their cheeks and give them long, warm hugs.

No.
I'm the sort who'll wake up, grunt, nod absent- mindedly while they tell me to clear up my room/study more/stop being such a lazy bum.
And then I'll ask for a cup of coffee.

Having said that, I love them.
And the quickest, fastest, easiest way to COMPLETELY piss me off is by disrespecting them.

And what pisses me off even further is when the antagonists are your own flesh and blood.
And of course its worse when they're your relatives coz you can't give back as much as you'd like to without burning 10,000 bridges in the process.

Take the case of Uncle A.
They visit Singapore and we visit them in the hotel room before taking them out for dinner.
Out comes the whiskey bottle.
Dad has a bit and he can handle his alcohol.
Uncle A has a lot and he can't handle his alcohol.

Soon he starts talking a lot.
Our expressions start going from mildly amusing to 'shit-I-can't-believe-he-said-that' to slightly alarmed and we finally end up with an uncomfortable awkward silence. Dontcha just love family gatherings?

Half of his statements came out as terribly racist, homophobic, xenophobic and everything-else-phobic. My blood was boiling.
And the cherry on the cake?
"People who can't make it in India, always go overseas and show themselves off as big people when in fact they're just actually third rate citizens in another country!!!"

Everyone else in the room coughed, pretended to ignore what he said and started up their own conversations.
I just stared at him.
"Uncle, isn't your own son in Country X?"
"Yes, yes but that's different."
"I see."
I opened my mouth to say more but my Dad stopped me with a glare.

My mom who was in India, had to deal with nasty relatives who kept making snide remarks and statements in the comfort of their own homes.
Scumbags.
To them I'd like say "No one needs enemies when they have relatives like you lot.Oh and go screw yourself."
My dad told me "You have a lot to learn. It's not easy to tell people off like that."

I may come off as young and idealistic but I say "Bullshit."
It's as easy or as difficult as you want to make it. And that's the bottomline.
You begin and end relationships with people all the time. It only seems harder with relatives because society has made you believe that in the end your relatives will be there. It nonsense and no one has to live with it.
I'm living, breathing, raving, ranting proof.

Who says relatives will stick by you?
Who says you can turn to relatives in times of need?
I know friends who'd give a right arm for you and relatives who'd say "Uh, sorry..my right arm is busy in a meeting."

Jeezus.
I'm pissed off.

Digging through that old photo album of Memories (of Bad Hair Days and More)

So I started digging around in my old photo albums coz I got into a nostalgic mood (and that happens often) and it was very bittersweet (the mostly bitter part was my god awful hairstyle back then...you'll see..)

Now Ever Dearest Reader..it is not often you see Mahi looking unglam and fugly..but I'm hoping you'll look beyond the fugliness and see the innocence and the happiness (and gush about how cute I was AND still AM.)
Ahem.

Mahi and her Red Ball

This was at my Grandparents house, I must've been less than a year old.
They still have this ball.
(Pervs out there please don't spoil the moment :P you know what I mean.)

Daddy's Little Girl

I love this pic! It's such a classic.
Also..how was I able to bend like that? Where did all my flexibility disappear off to?

Aunty V and I

This was perhaps the most bittersweet of them all.
Aunty V was a lovely lady, like a second Mum to me. Four years back she passed away in a terrible accident. I don't remember crying that hard ever in my life, as I did when I heard the news.

I am Gorgeous Dahlink

Artsy-Fartsy Pointing Pose

Heh heh. I may or may not have knocked over that vase.

I call this look 'Blue Steel'.

This was at our first house in Lagos, and Dad wanted to try out his new camera.
It was then I realised "Hey! I'm good at this." Being really really goodlooking I mean.
=P KIDDING.
(I know I just channelled Derek Zoolander)
Anyway turns out the film was spoilt which gave the pics that yellow tinge. But I say it was one of those rare beautiful mistakes (much like me. :P)

At the Zurich Airport

I know. I'm a nutcase.
However I was a hit with the pretty air hostesses (wait, is still politically incorrect to call them that? Is it 'air stewardess' now?)that worked for Swissair.
I still remember going and asking one for a cup of hot chocolate and taking ages to return. When my mom came to look for me, she saw me talking animatedly to about 4 of them, explaining in full detail why my two front teeth were missing (I ran into a wall and they had to be extracted coz they were dying.)

Oh Look! An 80's TV with a Family on the Side.

I couldn't stop laughing when I saw this one.
I mean LOOK AT MY FACE!!
Not only do I have a TERRIBLE haircut but I think I'm also trying to kill my brother! I look like I'm trying my darndest to squeeze his head like an orange.
Let me explain the haircut- Dad always fancied himself to be a bit of an artist. His dream is to open a barbershop. Guess who was the guinea pig in the haircutting experiments?
Thaaat's right.
Needless to say, I changed salons.

There was a Little Girl who had a Little Curl 2 Palmtrees.

I look happy, but I'm not. Those palmtrees were painful to tie. I'm lucky I didn't go bald.
My brother looks terrified and disgusted at the same time. Cool!
Do I really look like my Mom??

The Beach

My cousin K and I were at the 'Bar Beach'.
My parents call this picture the "Lady Di Pic" but I don't really know why.
I wonder what we were talking about.

First Kiss??

This is my Mum, me and my best buddy at that time- KR.
This could quite possibly be my first kiss (and my last, at the rate I'm going. Hmpf.)
Anyway, it cuts a damn cute picture.

Here's the freaky bit-

That's me on the left..and that's NOT me on the right.
That's my MOTHER.
I can't believe how alike we looked!
You know what they say...'If you wanna know what a girl will look like when she grows older, just look at her mother.'

I hope you guys enjoyed seeing the pictures, I know I did!
(And my Mum looks gorgeous, in case anyone was wondering.)
=P

Desperate House-...daughter?

What a week it's been!

You know, I did a very dry post before this one, read it through and thought to myself "Shit. Even I wouldn't want to read that voluntarily."
So out the window it went!

What's been happening, eh?

Well for starters Mom's in India right now.
You wouldn't believe me if I told you why.
(Once again, the following can only happen with THIS family.)
My mum's friend is going back to India for good. This friend has 2 dogs (both stinky, whiny and totally without bladder control) and 1 cat (far too aloof for my liking).
Now this friend and her husband want to take the animals with them in the cabin.
But here's the catch. The plane only allows one animal per person. So guess who got a free seat to India??

Lucky MOM!

Sheesh. Some people have all the luck. A daughter like me...a free ride to India...bah!

So I'm left to play house with three males who have issues.
My brother has the sniffles. So my dad was like "Let's make him that home remedy that your Mom makes."
I was like "Cool let's do it!"
And we both just stood there...
"Er..how do you make it?"
"No idea, Dad."
"Ok, let's try putting a bit of this...aaand a bit of that.."
My poor brother actually has to drink that.

My dad's become the house-husband version of a backseat driver. I don't have to elaborate. You get the idea.

Kelso has had yet another haircut. I don't know what we're feeding him, but his hair grows SUPER fast! We need to shave his hair off every 2 months!

Before..............................and .............................................After

I could be wrong, but he looks mighty unhappy about the haircut. I had him sitting and just balefully staring at me for 20 minutes before I noticed he was being far too quiet. Of course I had to go cheer him up by telling him he looked gorgeous and I still loved him and he was the cutest doggie in the world.
Men!

Oh I've also had hols for a week. These hols are deviously named "One Week Break" when in fact they're meant for you to CATCH UP on your readings..which obviously means no ones done didley.
All I'm close to finishing is Season 7 of Voyager.
Speaking of Voyager, I think I might be watching too much of it. I actually had a dream I was being assimilated =S And what did I do?
"Uh uh. You are NOT assimilating me." -Ghetto headshake and finger wag-
Stop laughing (and stop thinking I'm nuts).

You know I was chatting with a friend recently and he casually mentioned I'm a lot like Monica from Friends.
I pride myself on being more of a Phoebe, so naturally, I had strong objections.
And then I remembered something..

Remember the house guests? The ones that could have potentially ruined my birthday?
Well, when they had come, they all used the bathroom.
[Slight Digression- I am EXTREMELY particular about bathrooms. Chances are my room, my desk, my cupboard will be a royal mess but my bathrooms will be spotless and sparkling. You know how they say "Judge a man by the shoes he wears"? Screw that. Judge him by the condition his bathroom is in. You won't go wrong.]

So when I needed to use it, I entered and I was stunned. Not in a good way. Stunned in a bad way. Very bad way.

A Great Scene of Devastation met my eyes. It was....horrendous.
There was muck everywhere. There were dirty footprints. Oh god..I can't go on.
Then something snapped in me. I shut the door quietly.
I came out 10 minutes later. My mom came up to me "Where were you?? What were you doing??"
I just pointed to inside the bathroom.
It was clean.
It was beautiful once again.
There was equilibrium.

OH GOD.
I am SO Monica.

One last thing that's been on my mind.
How much do you guys trust your instincts?
How is it that we immediately trust Person A so implicitly and not Person B (considering context, circumstance etc etc was the same)?
Usually I know immediately if I'll become fast friends with them or make annoying small talk and then wait for one of us to f.o. (In this case I'm usually the first one to buzz off coz some people just don't have a bloody clue and still persist with the agonizing small talk..it KILLS me!)
What goes on in our unconscious when it comes to making snap judgements or judgements guided by our 'instinct'?

Just some food for thought..

Enjoy the weekend.......and keep that bathroom clean.

I'm watching you.
